Working In My New Studio

Hello from the studio!

I am back and in a new studio. Yup, I have been MIA because I moved into a new house. I am very excited because I have decided to go to art shows with my goods. My latest was a creation of love. Simply named "The Water." And I was so excited about the new painting I ordered a frame right away.

I Finally Had Time to Create

Hello from the studio!

I finally made it back into the studio. I have been so busy house hunting and stressing, I forgot how relaxing painting is. And what fun I had tonight! As you know I am always in the beach mood, and lately, the sunset show here in Pensacola is one of what I like to call a sherbet sky. So I set on creating a sherbet sky, and here it is. Hope you like it. I have to say taking this quick photo with my phone at night, it does not do the colors justice. The colors are truly more sherbert in person. I will be placing this up on my site and my Etsy shop as well. You can see other paintings at Just Dahl Beach

Here is the other painting from tonight and I don't have a name for it. I might call him Hunter Tiki.

Where have you been?

Hello from the studio!

Welcome to November! I am a little cramped in the studio, as you can see.

I have been house hunting. I am close to choosing one and my studio will be amazing and I will have plenty of room for my creative brain and areas to photograph my art.

I will be back to creating soon. I have to create.

Dinner? Canvas Manta Ray

Hello from the studio!

I had to put this to the canvas. I love how manta rays look like they are flying through the water.

Can you tell who my two favorite artists might be from my style of painting?

Hello from the studio!

This canvas is calling me. Where it starts, is an emotion inside, then a picture comes to mind in my head, then my hands and painting tools take over and before you know it I am in love with a new creation.

Family of artists - Ed (my dad)

Did I ever tell you, I come from a family of artists? Create or go crazy. My dad was a great artist. He said he always argued with color. But I think that was because he tried to use orange as the main color in so many of his works.
His best works had only a touch of orange in them.

My father was my inspiration for my palm frond art. He would gather these rotted half falling apart palm fronds and one day I saw it..his first one, the Elephant. It was perfection.
He would later give it to me because
I was so in love with it.

My dad's yard was an artist's dream, paints, tools, tons of left over nature and all right there waiting for you to create something, it was so hard to know where to start playing. I'll continue to tell you about my wonderful creative family throughout this blog.

The 4th one from the deep dark waters...

Hello from the studio!

This is the last of the 4 dark paintings. I thoroughly enjoyed painting this one. I just discovered the Manta Ray a couple years back. There is something about painting sea creatures. Stay tuned, I might do a bright red crab, or maybe a blue crab. Check out my very first experiences with the Manta Ray and you will see why I am in awe of them.

Mermaid & Hang Ten

Hello from the studio!

The mermaid idea was suggested by a friend.

These colors would make a cool surf board. I got brave with color.

Ready for more?

Hello from the studio!

I know my usual pallet is light and airy, but I am into mixing things up now and then. I am trying out some dark painting. Who knows what they will be when I am finished.

24" x 36" Shell Island

Hello from the studio!

I really enjoyed painting this one. I think the traditional sky, water,
beach paintings are nice but I like to mix things up and see it from another
perspective. I wanted to wait to post it till I had its glamour shot.
And here it is for your viewing pleasure.

The painting continues as it wraps around the edges.

Painting Tiny

Hello from the studio!

I have been busy today painting tiny. Tiny what? Well, this is what happened...

I kinda made a mess...but it was worth it. I think this confirms I am an Impressionist Painter.

Mondays Aren't So Bad...

Hello from the studio!

Music is turned up! It's not the easiest thing being a starving artist, but I am trying to wear it well. This is what makes me happy.

And here are two of them.

The next step is sealing the item with a clear acrylic,
insert the hanging assembly and create the glamour shot.
Once all that is done the items will be placed
in the
gallery and ready for purchase.

About The Artist
I think I am lucky that I found out at a very young age not only what I am supposed to be doing, but where and what would be my life's theme. I am supposed to create art at the beach. And the theme, you probably guessed, the beach and all the wonders of the water.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago; a lot of them – from Hinsdale to Bensenville to Cicero and more. One constant remained; the city of Chicago and the fantastic culture it showed me. I spent many a weekend at the Art Insitute, Science and Industry and Field museums, Brookfield Zoo and people watching at Buckingham Fountain. I enjoyed music in the park and the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Biograph Theater, but mostly running around the neighborhood with all the other kids, just being a kid.

I spent most of my indoor hours drawing anything and everything, on any paper I could find. I poked a lot of holes in my walls with pushpins to hang all my art. I am thankful for computers in which I do most of my drawings now; it did help with the pushpin issue. However since I started making Palm Frond Masks and Canvas Paintings, nails are now the issue.
